Himmeli Ornament Class with Sharon Marquardt
Art of the Lakes / CAC
Description
Celebrate your scandinavian roots by making a himmeli ornament from local papyrus grass. In Finland these geometric shapes are made from rye straw, but we have a perfect material right in our wet ditches and swamps. You will learn how to assemble these stalks into octahedrons using thread and a beading needle. The stalks will be supplied, but you will learn how to harvest and prepare them for this straw art. The term himmeli derives from the Scandinavian and German word “himmel” meaning sky or heaven.
